Members of the Media are cordially invited to participate in the Prince William Chamber of Commerce's "Meet the Media" event on Friday, September 27; 9:00-11:30 a.m. at Best Western Battlefield Inn in Manassas. Participants are sought in the sectors of: Online Media; Print Media; Broadcast Media. This breakfast event provides the chance for the business people of Greater Prince William County (and Manassas) and members of the media to connect, finding ways to work together. Members of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce recently gathered to close out their third fiscal year with an Annual Meeting and Installation of Officers at Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville. The luncheon, sponsored by MTCI-Management & Training Consultants, Inc. served as a celebratory showcase with an Annual Report from Chamber President & CEO Rob Clapper as well as remarks from outgoing Chairman Pete Dolan, Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley, Emrich & Walsh, PC and incoming Chairman William White, Apple Federal Credit Union.

On the Virginia Senate's failure to pass a transportation bill, Prince William Chamber President Rob Clapper said, "We are disappointed with the lack of compromise shown in the Senate last night, particularly on something that impacts each and every citizen of the Commonwealth. According to a Texas Transportation Institute report, Northern Virginia has the worst congestion in the nation..."

With Medicaid becoming a topic of discussion during the 2013 Virginia General Assembly session, Prince William Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Rob Clapper made the following statement: “The Prince William Chamber supports reforms that would make the Commonwealth’s Medicaid program sustainable. Given that Virginia taxpayers are already paying into healthcare reform via taxes levied as part of the Affordable Care Act, it makes sense to take advantage of Medicaid reform."

Prince William Chamber Donates 500 “Kits” of Warm Clothing

Just in time for the snow this weekend, members of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce Education Committee dropped off 500 “kits” of warm clothing to 13 Title I elementary schools in the area. Each kit contains a fleece sweat suit, knit hat and gloves. The kits were purchased with funds collected during Winter Warm-UP, a virtual clothing drive that lets businesses and community members to donate online.

Nearly 300 people came out to the Continental Event Center for this Prince William Chamber of Commerce event showcasing the many innovative companies located in greater Prince William.

Join the Prince William Chamber in honoring the men and women who serve our nation, as we recognize members of the local veteran community, tomorrow, Jan. 16, 11:30 am at Harbour View in Woodbridge. Includes introduction of the Prince William Veterans Council and a keynote by Col. Gregory D. Gadson, Ft. Belvoir Commander, and the first double amputee to serve in that position. Gadson is also an honorary coach of the NY Giants and had a role in the movie Battleship.

The continued planning and construction of new infrastructure projects is necessary to keep Northern Virginia’s economy strong, and its people moving. However, the state simply does not have the resources to meet current infrastructure maintenance or construction needs. As our legislative leaders continue to debate the long-term solution to our transportation funding challenges, major infrastructure projects will only become a reality through the continued use of Public-Private Partnerships. Transferring the risk from the public to the private sector in many cases provides greater efficiency.

The Prince William Chamber announced that US Army Colonel Gregory D. Gadson, Garrison Commander Fort Belvoir, will keynote its Salute to the Armed Services event, Jan. 16 at Harbour View. Gadson is a double amputee who has gone on to have a breakout role in the movie "Battleship" and helped inspire the NY Giants to two Super Bowl wins.

The Prince William Chamber of Commerce hosts the Prince William delegation to the Virginia General Assembly during its annual “Legislative Kick-off” on December 19, 8:00 to 10:00 am at Old Hickory Golf Club, 11921 Chanceford Drive near County Center. All members of the business community are invited to meet with elected officials before they head to Richmond for the new legislative session. Businesses do not have to belong to the Chamber to attend.

That’s why, when in the spring of 2012, Prince William County began experiencing an unexpected and significant increase in building plan submissions, they acted quickly to address the problem. But it would take time, since the plan submission numbers were surging to nearly three times monthly averages!

Now through Friday, December 7, members of the community are invited to sponsor a veteran’s attendance at the Prince William Chamber of Commerce’s “Salute to the Armed Services,” which takes place January 16, 2013, 11:30 am at Harbour View in Woodbridge. The Salute is an opportunity to thank the men and women in our community who have dedicated their lives to protecting our nation. Highlights include recognition of outstanding military members and introduction of the new Prince William Veteran’s Council. For $75, sponsors receive a seat for themselves along with a seat for a local military veteran.

Months of work on the part of Prince William Chamber of Commerce Education Committee came to fruition on November 13, when 441 volunteers came together to read to 21,000 in 34 area schools in celebration of National Young Readers Day (NYRD). Volunteers represent many area businesses as well as parents, grandparents, retirees and others who value the importance of instilling good reading habits.

Brenda Blisk, CFP® CEO of Blisk Financial Group and Vice President of Spire Investment Partners will kick the day off with a keynote presentation on “Financial Independence for Women.” Attendees will hear from the second keynote speaker, Gail W. Johnson, RN, MS President/CEO, Rainbow Station, Inc. and PRISM, LLC, at lunch time. Her presentation will focus on “Success: The Ability to Outrun Failure.” An event of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, the conference was met with great enthusiasm when it debuted last year.

PW Chamber Hosts "Coffee with the Candidates"

The Prince William Chamber of Commerce held a “Coffee with the Candidates,” a meet and greet with the two major party candidates for the 11th US Congressional District, Representative Gerry Connolly (D) and Colonel Chris Perkins (R). The event was organized after representatives from the Connolly and Perkins campaigns reached out to Chamber leadership asking for an opportunity to meet with and learn more about business leaders in the district. Held at the Chamber’s Woodbridge branch office at the Mason Enterprise Center, it was free to attend and open to anybody with an interest in the congressional race.

Prince William Chamber of Commerce President Rob Clapper the organization's more than 2,100 members, representing approximately 70,000 employees, a copy of the joint Virginia Economic Development Partnership and George Mason University assessment of the impact of that pending federal budget cuts could have on the Virginia economy. The Chamber is also urging members to become familiar with and contact their elected officials about the Fiscal Cliff.

Connections, Prince William’s largest trade show returns on Thursday, October 25 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center, located at 10900 University Boulevard in Manassas. The public is encouraged to attend this family-friendly event of the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, which features over 100 exhibitors, food samples and prize drawings, including a $500 cash prize donated by Dominion Virginia Power. There is no charge to attend.

The Prince William Chamber of Commerce unveiled its redesigned website this week, featuring a sleeker look, faster load times and additional functionality. Manassas-based marketing firm ImagineDesign built the new www.pwchamber.org at no charge to the Chamber. One addition to the site is an advocacy resource center that features voter information and policy news.
